![]() ![]() to basically zero once you factor in transportation and storage. Retail price wars have shrunk margins on electronics like game consoles, etc. I can answer this question, though only from a Best Buy perspective. It's like GS expects people to buy a brand new game only to beat it and sell it back to the store for a 50% reduction a week later, so they can sell it for $5 less than a brand new one. We used to get a guy every tuesday who'd bring in 10-20 brand new wrapped games to sell to us. This was all 7 or 8 years ago so yeah, I think they finally got a new computer system for reserves once they worked out how ebgames did it once they acquired em.īut really, the worst part is the used sales thing. Or do that if they were trading in so they'd get it and return the games. Or we'd ring people up for a couple used games and the card so they'd get the discount, then return the games. Literally thousands of dollars just being recycled in store credit to keep numbers acceptable). Or really any pre-order that was more than 6 months old was probably an employee's or someone who forgot about their game, so eventually we had a very specific rotation that was changed constantly. We'd take old pre-orders and cash them out to make new ones (For games like SC:Ghost or Duke Nukem. At least I was able to get Portal 2 before they let him go I know i'm just ranting here, but I wanted to share it with /r/gaming. GameStop needs to seriously rethink their business model. This is now the 3rd friend of mine who's lost their job at GameStop because of this and I find it absurd, my roommate has been with the company for 11 years and was let go for this! GameStop is a horrible company that shows little to no compassion for their employees, all they care about are numbers, but why bother when you get a crappy magazine subscription, dont buy enough games and accessories in a year to pay for the discount card, and can easily go to Best Buy or Target and find any game the day it's released. You can't hold this against the store employees for trying to do their job, because what happens when their total numbers are lower than the other stores in their district? The store manager gets canned. I worked for GameStop seasonally for a few years off and on, and know how much everybody hates the company for trying to push game reservations and Game Informer subscriptions down their customers throats.
